Into the Woods

Year 5 pupils spend an exciting lesson in the woods to assist them with their creative writing.

Year 5 made Horsell Common their classroom on Thursday as they went looking for inspiration for poetry and story writing.

They started off by exploring the woods to help them create a mindmap of exciting vocabulary, metaphors, similes and personification examples to include in their spring poems. The towering trees provided a spooky atmosphere and many of the mindmaps seemed to be indicating the mood of the final drafts will be a little more darker than expected.

Following this, each child got the chance to perform a monologue telling the story of a lost child in the forest. Year 5 loved the chance to perform outdoors and each performance served as inspiration for a story they will plan and write this week.
