Greenfield and Glyndebourne

The General Director of Glyndebourne Opera made his first ever visit to a school last week when he dropped in on Greenfield's Senior and Chamber Choirs.

On Friday 10th November, our Senior Choir and Chamber Choir were extremely privileged to meet the General Director of Glyndebourne Opera, Sebastian F. Schwarz.

Glyndebourne was established over 80 years ago by founder John Christie and his wife, Audrey Mildmay. It is now one of the most renowned opera houses in the world, performing to over 150,000 people during the summer Festival and autumn tour.

Glyndebourne is in the middle of a tour of venues across the county and, during their run of performances at Woking's New Victoria Theatre, Mr Schwarz made some time to visit Greenfield and meet the children in the Senior and Chamber Choirs. Mr Schwarz gave the children an exciting sneak preview into the world of Opera and he listened to them sing! He enjoyed the childrens' singing and they were very excited to have made a musical connection with such an inspirational Director.

Perhaps some of Mr Shwarz's advice rubbed off on the Chamber Choir, who went on to win the U11 category in the Woking Music Festival yesterday. Well done to all our singers and a big thank you to Mr Schwarz for taking the time to visit us.
